What is Jota? Jota is a traditional Slovenian soup made with sauerkraut or pickled turnips.

It is especially recommend dish in winter days.

It is also popular among those who do not like to eat meat *vegan or vegetarian, although it is usually cooked with sausage or smoked meat.

A knife

A spoon

Sectaire

1.5 l of water

250g sauerkraut

250g of turnips

3x potatoes

1x onion

2x stork garlic

2tsp of tomato extract

2x bay leaves

Can or 200g of boiled beans

Salt, pepper, red pepper

Optional sausage or bacon

What is Jota? Jota is a traditional Slovenian soup made with sauerkraut or pickled turnips.

Preparation:

Cut the onion and garlic into small cubes and simmer until soft. Add the sauerkraut and simmer for a few minutes.

In another pot, boil the potatoes, which we have previously peeled and cut into cubes.

When the potatoes are cooked, add them together with the water to the container where the onions and cabbage were stewed.

You can also mash the potatoes a little if they are too runny.

Add beans and season with pepper, salt, ground paprika, tomato extract, and bay leaves.

Now we can also add sausage to the jota.

Cook for at least another 20 minutes or more, so that the flavors combine nicely and the sausage is cooked.

If necessary and desired, add more water.
